Jurors see police interview of Daphne Wright

By Josh Verges

After interviewing Daphne Wright for two hours, police were
suspicious enough to obtain a search warrant for Wright’s body and
her home.

Jurors watched the first half of the videotaped interview this
morning, the second day of Wright’s capital murder trial.

Wright first described VanderGiesen as “very friendly.”

She said that when VanderGiesen disappeared, the two had been
planning a Valentine’s Day surprise for Sallie Collins, Wright’s
lover and a friend of VanderGiesen’s.

Prosecutors said Wright was jealous of VanderGiesen, so she
kidnapped, killed and dismembered her in early February 2006.

“She was trying to destroy mine and Sallie’s relationship,” Wright
told the detective. “She would go there (Collins’s apartment)
frequently and laugh about us. We talked about it and said, Let’s
just forget it.”

Testimony is scheduled to resume at 1:30 p.m.
