Wright Trial: Scuff Marks Covered With Paint

By Lou Raguse

A Sioux Falls police detective testified that fresh paint in Daphne
Wright’s basement covered what could be chainsaw scuff marks on her
cement basement floor.

The detective said the blue paint was splattered throughout the
basement in “Inconsistent and sloppy motions.”

“There didn’t appear to be and reason or pattern to the paint,” Det.
Keith Gries testified.  “It was just thrown about different locations
on the floor, in the basement and the coal room.”

The prosecution believes Wright splattered the paint to cover up the
crime scene.

Another detective testified that Wright’s clothes were stained with
matching blue paint when they questioned her. The prosecution
displayed the clothes to the jury.
