(SIOUX FALLS, S.D.) – It’s been an emotional day of testimony
in the Sioux Falls trial of a deaf woman accused of killing and
dismembering another deaf woman.
Daphne Wright is charged in the February 2006 slaying of Darlene
Jessica Lichty (LIK’-tee) of the Sioux Falls crime lab described
for jurors how VanderGiesen’s pelvis and thighs, and feet and lower
legs were found at the local landfill.
She says the upper part of the body was later found intact in a
Minnesota ditch. It showed burn marks and there was a plastic bag
tied around VanderGiesen’s head.
Prosecutors say Wright killed VanderGiesen, then used a chain
saw in the basement to dismember her body and burn part of it.
Jurors were shown photos of what investigators found.
VanderGiesen’s mother left the courtroom crying.
