The last witnesses have testified at the Sioux Falls trial of a deaf woman facing life in prison or death by lethal injection.
Jurors went home for the night and will start deliberating after attorneys give closing arguments today.
The jury convicted 43-year-old Daphne Wright last week of kidnapping and murdering 42-year-old Darlene VanderGiesen in February 2006.
Prosecutors say Wright was jealous of the friendship that VanderGiesen had with Wright’s former lover, another deaf woman from Sioux Falls.
If Wright is sentenced to death, she would be the first woman on South Dakota’s death row and likely the first deaf woman on death row in the nation.
