“RAD Unity” Chosen as RAD Conference Theme

RAD Unity! That is the theme of this year’s conference — RAD Unity reminds us that we are all in this together and we ought to be celebrating the diversity we have in our community. Embrace it, enjoy it and help it grow.

Speaking of Unity, RAD invites you to watch our first V-log on www.rad.org! This V-log, featuring Bob Donaldson, RAD President, will give you all the exciting updates we have on the RAD 2007 conference…. In ASL!!! After all, we are united by one very common bond – our ASL!

As you know, our conference will take place July 3-8, 2007, in Atlanta, Georgia. One of our many traditions is the Mr. RAD, Ms. RAD, Miss RAD, and Mr. Drag King contests. For more information on how to enter the contests, go to our website, www.rad.org.

Are you a Deaf-owned business? Or, do you have a business that has products that will interest our Deaf attendees? We invite you to consider booth space at our conference. This is a great opportunity to sell your products or services. This is also a great time for non-profit organizations, such as HIV/AIDS programs that have services for the Deaf, or any kind of deaf group or organization that welcomes Deaf GLBT people. Great way to network and share information. For more information on our exhibits/vendor area, see www.rad.org.

We are also looking for volunteers!!!! Look for the volunteer form on our website! We need help with the registration area, hall monitors, and many other things. Please get in touch with us soon, so we can start scheduling shifts.

RAD chapters, may we have your attention! Please send us your delegates! Their combo tickets can be purchased for $250.00. Our Website has that information as well. Contact Larry Pike, our treasurer if you have questions that are not answered on www.rad.org. Also, contact Larry if the delegate price you paid with PRDS was different

One last thing folks, as you prepare your delegates for the RAD Delegate meeting, also consider what motions you want to make. Our Bylaws, Conference Policy Guidelines and other necessary information can be found on RAD’s Website. We also have motion forms online that you can print out and send to us. Deadline for motions are June 3, 2007, to be sent to David Nelson, of the Laws Committee. That information can be found on our Website, too. Thanks!

Thank you for your continued support of RAD!

  1. Nice theme. Unfortunately, I’m not planning to go. Saving my money for DLF conference.

  2. Too late. This is classic incompetence on RAD’s part in planning.

    What else is new?

RAD Unity is a nice theme but in the last few years when people attempted to improve the organization, the RAD Board has done nothing but to alienate many — why pick this hypocritical name?

  3. Wonderful plans!!! we need to spread the words to many deaf gay! there are too many discloset out there!!! time to tear down their closet doors!!!! and stop the favorism! too many deaf gay never invite each others so sad!!!

Long live deaf gay pride!!! Hey Ridor got a man?
    Gary 😉

  4. RAD is s**ks and we need to create brand new organization, replace RAD. Some of chapters already disliked RAD.

In additional, it will be very small numbers attend RAD this year.

  5. RAD seems to be having lots of problems lately. Instead of bashing them, shouldn’t we try and help them out to become a stronger organization? I wish I could attend the upcoming conference. Unfortunately, I can’t get the time off from work. I’m sure those who go will have a blast.

  6. I think the issue with RAD is there haven’t been any good leaders running it. Is that because no one good wants to be involved with it or because we lack good leaders?

RAD 2007 Conference is for YOU! RAD Board took over because PRDS back out due to their own decision, nothing to do with RAD Board. The Conference is still GO this July. Please support each other than attack each other. We are adults and I plan on having a good time in Atlanta.

  8. What’s the story with PRDS and RAD? Heard many rumors. Curious what the real story is behind it all.

  9. The rumor about PRDS and RAD is that Sheraton Hotel in Atlanta was supposed to reserve a space for RAD. PRDS made a contract with the hotel a long time ago and the hotel breached the contract only 6 months before RAD conference, disrespecting the Deaf community. I blame the hotel for the whole mess. PRDS scrambled to seek for other hotels in a short time. Unfortunately, most hotels were all booked up. The misunderstandings, disappointments and anxiety level were pretty high and tense between PRDS and RAD. It happened for the first time in RAD history. We will learn the lesson from this. RAD will become stronger after adding a new policy on how to handle the such crisis like hotel dropping the contract.

I still praise PRDS for their hard work for over 3 years and it is hard enough for them to come down to a big disappointment. They don’t need any additional burden or attacks from non volunteers. If you do volunteer and work hard to help any of RAD chapters or other Deaf organiztions, you can help share your experiences or provide support. That’s what we need very much right now. Attacking or crab theory pulling down leaders will not get us anywhere. If you want a different organization to take over RAD, YOU ARE VERY WELCOMED and GOOD LUCK!

THERE ARE NO PAID STAFFS AT ALL in RAD. Why criticizing and attacking? I just don’t get it. I praise all RAD volunteers for their times and energy, no matter what. We are still learning. The RAD organization is not very mature like NAD. It was founded in 1977 and held only bi-annual conferences. It is hard enough to run RAD without any home offices or storages, changing officers. We are doing our best.

Please just raise your hand and loan your helping hand. It is simple. Isn’t it?

    Thank you,
    Bob RRR
