Aaron Kubey is the new executive director-president of the National Theatre of the Deaf, which has gone through financial crises, leadership changes and relocations in the past few years.

Kubey, a paralegal in a New York law firm, is currently artistic director of the New York Deaf Theatre.

Kubey takes over the position Nov. 5 at the 40-year-old organization, now based in West Hartford. He succeeds Paul L. Winters, who served as executive director for four years and has been a board member since 2001.

Kubey is a 1994 graduate of the Model Secondary School for the Deaf at Gallaudet University in Washington. He worked with NTD’s Los Angeles Little Theatre of the Deaf from 1995 to 1997.

He also worked with Deaf West in Los Angeles and the Centerlight Theatre in Chicago before joining the New York Deaf Theatre.

He participated in the Professional Theatre School in Chester in 1995 under the auspices of the National Theatre of the Deaf.

Congratulations Aaron! I think this is the first time there’s ever been an openly-gay NTD director. Of course, we all know the many closet cases, including one well known actor that still hasn’t come out. You are a role model. Keep it up!

NTD has been having a lot of financial issues and came close to folding. I’m not sure that Aaron is the right person to lead. I would have preferred to see someone with more fundraising experience take the helm. I wish him the best of luck, however.

    For PB:

NTD’s website is located at: www.ntd.org

Here’s what NTD website said -

The National Theatre of the Deaf (NTD) is a touring theatre company of Deaf and hearing actors that performs in a beautiful and unique theatrical style that it created. That style, which has been referred to as “poetry for the eye and the ear”, links the visually expressive American Sign Language with the spoken word, allowing audiences to see and hear every word.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2007, NTD is the oldest, continuously performing professional touring theatre company in the country. During its history, NTD has completed over 100 national tours and 31 international tours; given over 10,000 performances; appeared in all 50 states and on all 7 continents; and appeared in numerous television productions.

For performance or workshop, go to that link:

Hope this answer your question? ENJOY!

Nothing new with deaf community doing crab thing… pull down other people for their own personal selfish agendas. We have a chance to show world that deaf gay or lesbian can be a success as director of some major organization just like straight or hearing person.

GIVE HIM A CHANCE!!!!! Never know he do it better than you?? He have guts to apply and got it. Deal with it.

Don’t listen to those negative naysayers, aaron! you can do it!!! lot people are behind you alllllllllllll way!
