A prosecution witness continued drawing dots of evidence against
Daphne Wright this morning, but only connected a few of them.
Jessica Lichty, crime lab chemist for Sioux Falls police, said she
found blood at several spots in the basement of Wright’s home and on
the vehicle she shared with her roommate.
Police also found blood in the trunk of Jeff Hakeman’s vehicle.
Hakeman had dated Darlene VanderGiesen, and the defense has suggested
maybe he killed her. The blood, though, was non-human, and Hakeman
cooperated with police, Lichty said.
The chemist also described how the victim’s body from knees to navel
was found at the city landfill on Feb. 21, 2006. She said it was
wrapped in bed sheets and trash bags, which other witnesses have
linked to Wright.
Lichty will be back on the witness stand after a break.
