Testimony to continue on Thursday in Daphne Wright murder trial.

Wednesday afternoon, jurors heard from the the store clerk who sold
Daphne Wright a chainsaw just days after the victim, Darlene
VanderGiesen disappeared. Other witnesses described the bone and
tissue matter that was discovered stuck the walls in Wright’s
Inside Daphne Wright’s house, investigators testified they found bone
and tissue splattered on basement walls, freshly painted patches on
the floor and walls, and what appeared to be cut marks on the
basement floor. Other investigators described finding the victim.,
Darlene VanderGiesen’s, lower legs and an American sign language
shirt in the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill.
12 witnesses took the stand Wednesday. Along with investigators, they
included clerks and store managers who testified they sold the
defendant plastic bag, a chainsaw and chainsaw oil two days after
prosecutors say Darlene VanderGiesen was killed.
Prosecutors also showed jurors the same kind of chainsaw Wright
purchased: a 1.5 horsepower, electric powered, Remington brand.
On cross-examination, defense attorneys asked investigators why other
bloody items found in Darlene VanderGiesen’s apartment and the Sioux
Falls Regional Landfill were not tested for DNA evidence. The
witnesses said they didn’t know.
Jurors will hear from more prosecution witnesses on Thursday.
